Confidence as an Outcome, Not a Requirement
Have you ever wanted to do a photo session but you find yourself thinking, “I’ll do that when I’m feeling more confident” or “I’ll do that when X happens.” It’s crazy how often I hear this phrase and it’s something we really have twisted around in our culture. Confidence isn’t a requirement for a photo shoot–it’s the outcome.
Common Myths About Being Photographed
That’s right, it’s a myth that we have to go into a photo shoot 100% ready, 100% authentic 100% confident and perfect. And that’s simply not true! Here’s a couple other myths about being photographed, see if any of these resonate with you:
You have to lose weight before a photo session or be a certain size
You have to be young for it to be acceptable to have photos of yourself
Photo Shoots have to be for a specific reason or milestone
You’re not photogenic enough for professional photos
You can just take photos of yourself and get the same experience
How the Session Builds Confidence Naturally
While some of those myths may feel true to you personally, I’m here to tell you after years of experience, they simply are not true. You can be any age, any size, have your photos done for any reason or just because! You are beautiful and it just so happens that building your confidence during a session is EXACTLY why hiring a profession photographer (aka me) is NOT the same as taking photos of yourself.
Our work together starts even before the session starts. I work with each of my clients to help them feel at ease, pick clothes that are going to help them feel amazing and depending on the type of session, do mindset work ahead of time to help shift their perspective on the whole experience. During the session, I’m your hype girl and therapist all rolled into one. We’ll laugh, ask deep questions and have you wondering how our time went by so fast.
What Happens When You Show Up Anyway
So what happens when you show up anyways? What happens if you show up as you are, where you are, and imperfect? It’s hard to fully explain but it’s transformational and magic. It’s you choosing you. It’s you loving you. And man, does that create a ripple effect for everything. THAT’S the confidence builder right there.
Who This Is Especially Powerful For
Showing up and choosing yourself is an incredibly powerful act of self love. This is especially powerful if you’ve been struggling to show up for yourself, if you’re going through a life transition, and if you struggle with perfectionism and self acceptance. So, pretty much all of us am I right?
