5 Reasons Women Need to Be Photographed

In my experience, women are the first ones to step out of the photograph. We make sure we take pictures of our kids, we get those milestones capture, and we are our worst critics when it comes to seeing ourselves in images. But I believe that women being photographed is not only important, but an act of rebellion. Here are 5 reasons (there are more) why it’s time to step into the photograph and out from behind the scenes.

Dark Times

We are living in times when women’s rights are being challenged. We have yet to see a female president in our country despite over 80 other countries having been led by women. Women need to be seen. We need to lead. We need to take up space and show all that we are doing in the world. It’s an act of rebellion and it matters.

Legacy

Part of the reason it matters is so that the little girls who are watching us know that they can do it too. That they are worthy of taking up space, of having fun in front of a camera, of loving who they are.

Credit

One of my favorite phrases to ask myself is “Who benefits?” Who benefits from us not showing up or being seen? Who benefits from us hating on ourselves? And if we flip it, and show up, love ourselves, take credit for our accomplishments and the amazing people we are…who benefits then?

Self Care

You’ll read time and time again on here that I believe that photography is also an act of self care. I believe that truly seeing yourself and being seen for the badass you are is deeply powerful. It can helps us work through trauma, body issues, compassion and self esteem.

Just Because

Just because. For no other reason than we want to, because it’s fun, because it brings joy and art into the world. That’s more than reason enough.

When Are Mini Sessions Each Year?

Sister Getting a Piggy Back Ride from Brother

Hey Friends!

One of the many questions I get asked is “When are mini sessions?”

In the past, I’ve played around with different times of the year for mini sessions but moving forward for 2025 I am striving to offer portrait mini sessions both in the spring and fall to accommodate schedules and budgets.

As we get close to each mini session time, I’ll send out an announcement via my newsletter as well as on social to allow clients to sign up for a session. If you want to stay in the loop, I highly recommend signing up for my newsletter and/or following me on Instagram at @runawayalice.

3 Reasons to Document Your Love

I've got an important question to ask you--are you documenting your love at every stage? At every age? I think most of us would say no. With the busyness of life it's hard to carve out time for something like that. But I truly believe, in my achy breaky heart, that it's so so important. Here's why...

1.Your Love is Inspirational

Really, it is! Seeing photos of couples who are dedicated to each other can inspire us to work at our own relationships. More than that, seeing images of our own love, can see us through a tough time. Because every couple goes through those.

2. Your Love is Part of Your Family History

Your love is a part of your family history, so it needs to be documented. I like to think of myself as a love historian, documenting the thread of love during my time here. Whether you plan on having kids or not, your love is a part of your family's story, and in some cases it can be a radical change from what "classic" or even unhealthy relationships looked like in your family. That is SO worthy of celebrating and cherishing.

3. Love Should be a Priority

Sometimes this is easier said than done, but putting ourselves and then our relationships first is hella magic. A couples session can be a moving experience and it's a wonderful way to reestablish connection.

Whether you're looking to re-connect, to document a new phase in your relationship, or just want a fun date experience, I'd love to serve you!
