You may think this is a ploy to make more money or an upsell scheme of some kind, but it’s not! I really am passionate about clients (and everyone really) having a tangible deliverable from their session whether that is a boudoir session, a basic portrait session, family session or wedding. And I personally feel the best version of that is an album. Here are my top reasons why:
It’s Private AND Shareable
To me an album is both private, not all of us want giant photos of ourself on our walls, and shareable. You can discretely keep it by your bed or on a shelf if its for your eyes only. You can keep it on your coffee table as a work of art or discussion piece. You can put it in your bag and share it with your friends and family or just snuggle with your kids on the couch and show them what they looked like as a baby. It’s really the best of both worlds.
2. Off Your Computer and Into Your Hands
I see so many friends and clients spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a shoot, absolutely love the photos, and then that’s where they stay. In the client gallery. And that is no one’s fault! I’m just as guilty as my clients about meaning to get something printed, or thinking I’ll come back to it and life simply gets in the way. That’s why you should know your print options going into a session, budget for it ahead of time and go ahead and get that album ordered while it’s top of mind.
3. They Make a Great Gift
An album is a thoughtful and jaw dropping gift! It really is! It takes consideration, beautiful art work, and experience all wrapped up into a personal storybook. It’s also a great way to give a gift and share a moment while being aware of space constraints. Maybe you don’t know what someones walls are like or what their style is, but an album has the same beautiful impact without someone having to figure out where to put it.
BONUS! Digital Isn’t Timeless
If the latest TikTok Ban has taught us anything it’s that anything in the digital world can come and go: ways to view file types change (think of how many family videos got converted from VHS), companies can change their policies or have data security incidents. And while tangible deliverables are also subject to things like fire and flood—the truth is a combination of all of the above will keep your memories most protected. So get those digital files downloaded onto an external hard drive, back them up to the cloud and grab an album while you’re at it.
This is why all my clients know from the start that an album is a customizable option for them. It’s a way to keep enjoying your photos for years to come, not only for yourself but for your descendants as well.
